In March 2018, Thandiswa Mazwai celebrated her birthday with a womxn-only concert at Newtown Music Factory. The concert was more than a celebration—it was a powerful gathering of womxn and gender non-conforming people in a space created for them. With an all-female audience, crew, and vendors, the event honoured the beauty, strength, and diversity of womxn. As part of the night, #TheTotalShutdown movement took to the stage for an activation, using performance and symbolism to highlight the urgent fight against gender-based violence.
