This research report highlights the urgent need for accountability in the private sector’s response to gender-based violence (GBV). A collaboration between the University of Johannesburg and the Shared Value Africa Initiative, the study examines the awareness, perceptions, and impact of GBV within workplaces. The report builds on previous research to explore the financial and social cost of GBV, using insights from company leaders and employees across South Africa. Findings emphasise the need for evidence-based policies, gender equality in leadership, and proactive workplace interventions. With recommendations spanning human rights, socio-economic change, and corporate responsibility, the report calls on businesses to take decisive action in addressing GBV. This research is a critical step towards shaping policies that protect employees, promote equality, and create safer, more inclusive workplaces.
