In September to October 2022, KwaZulu-Natal hosted a series of district workshops, with 617 participants attending from government, civil society organisations, traditional healers, and local leadership. The report highlights significant socio-economic factors contributing to Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in the region, including a high proportion of female-headed households and widespread food insecurity. It also identifies KwaZulu-Natal as home to six national GBVF hotspots, including Ethekwini Metro and Amajuba. The report details trends in reported GBVF cases and discusses challenges such as underreporting and inadequate service delivery. Despite progress in implementing the National Strategic Plan (NSP) with key achievements in awareness and victim support, the report notes gaps in coordination, resources, and community collaboration. Recommendations focus on strengthening accountability, accelerating services for survivors, and amplifying awareness campaigns to combat GBVF across all levels of society.
