National Council on GBVF (NCGBVF) Bill 2022

The National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (NCGBVF) Bill, 2022 lays the groundwork for a dedicated statutory body to lead South Africa’s response to GBVF. Introduced by the Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, the Bill aims to establish a multi-sectoral, independent, and non-partisan Council responsible for strategic coordination, policy implementation, and oversight. The NCGBVF will work to strengthen accountability, improve resource allocation, and drive the implementation of the National Strategic Plan on GBVF. It will also facilitate collaboration between government, civil society, and other key stakeholders to ensure a cohesive, survivor-centred approach to prevention and response. The Bill reflects the urgent need for a structured, long-term strategy to combat GBVF, reinforcing South Africa’s commitment to systemic change in tackling gender-based violence and femicide at all levels of society.
