Report of the Presidential Summit against GBVF II: 1-2 November 2022

This report provides an overview of the Presidential GBVF Summit II, held in November 2022, four years after the first summit. The focus of the summit, themed “Accountability, Acceleration and Amplification, NOW!”, was on accelerating the implementation of the National Strategic Plan (NSP) on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), with the aim of addressing the ongoing crisis in South Africa. Led by President Cyril Ramaphosa, the summit discussed critical issues, including the establishment of the National Council on GBVF, strengthening state accountability, improving survivor services, and engaging societal sectors in prevention efforts. The document highlights key discussions, resolutions, and recommendations from the summit, emphasising the importance of a multi-sectoral approach, involving collaboration between government, the private sector, and communities. The summit stressed the need for bold and effective leadership to tackle GBVF and ensure the necessary collaboration for the successful implementation of the NSP.
